Early reactions to Daft Punk’s upcoming album Random Access Memories are limited because of an embargo by their label, but it’s now being reported that the album’s closing track, “Contact,” could be more than ten years old.

FACT Magazine has already heard Random Access Memories and says they noticed the similarities between its album closer and a track spun by Daft Punk’s Thomas Bangalter at a 2002 DJ set days ago, but couldn’t report on it because of the aforementioned embargo. But now that the cat’s out of the bag, they linked to the live set (sample below) and pointed out the consistencies, noting that it, like Daft Punk’s new song, samples “We Ride Tonight” by The Sherbs.

DJ Falcon is also featured on the cut; he too was at that 2002 DJ set. We’d expect the final, album version of the track to be a bit different, but it’s crazy to see how far back its roots go.
