Eric Bourque got a shock when he checked his e-mail and found a cease and desist notice from the people at Soundcloud. It turns out they didn't like a song he'd uploaded privately to show his friends and disabled the track. But here's the catch: it was his song, written and recorded by him and his band mates in Careers in Science; a version of "Suri Cruise-Missile" he'd just finished mixing and was eager to share with the rest of the group.

Eric Bourque got a shock when he checked his e-mail and found a cease and desist notice from the people at Soundcloud. It turns out they didn’t like a song he’d uploaded privately to show his friends and disabled the track. But here’s the catch: it was his song, written and recorded by him and his band mates in Careers in Science; a version of “Suri Cruise-Missile” he’d just finished mixing and was eager to share with the rest of the group.

Too bad, so sad, though: Soundcloud removed it anyways. It’s worth noting here that the track was uploaded roughly 10 months ago.

“Our automatic content protection system has detected that your sound “Suri Cruise-Missle” may contain the following copyright content: “Suri Cruise-Missle” by Careers In Science, owned by Stumble Records,” said the e-mail Bourque received on Sunday. “As a result, its publication on your profile has been blocked.”

Bourque says he’s not mad at all, telling AUX that he thinks it’s more funny than anything.

“Every day I worry that someone, somewhere out there, might happen to hear my band online,” he said. “I’m overwhelmingly thankful that the good, hard working folks at Soundcloud are working diligently to ensure that can never, ever happen.”

Not us, though. We streamed the song along with the rest of Foreverwolf last year before its summer release. As for the band, their new EP Cowards is out now on CD with a vinyl pressing for a May release through Art Drug Records.

Bourque didn’t say whether the band plans on using Soundcloud again, though he did jokingly say “No, I don’t think I’m ever going to mess with those Careers In Science guys again,” when we pressed him for an answer.

Here’s the song in question:
