Lil Wayne’s I Am Not A Human Being 2 was released today, and after combing through the album’s lyric sheet, there were no real surprises. He’s still dropping his signature disgusting sex references, many of which seem destined to land themselves on our Worst Rap Lyrics Of 2013 list. Take for instance, a line from the first verse on the album: “She said my dick could be the next black President.” Wonderful.

Though Wayne isn’t dropping drug references as often as he did during the pre-Rikers Carter III-era of his career, there are still more than a few unsettling references to codeine, a drug that many speculate led to his recent health scare.

Check out all eight lines about lean below, broken down song-by-song. “Trippy” feels especially disturbing, wherein Weezy describes a debilitating drug experience where his spine starts to ache.

IANAHB

“Medicine, I treat it like peppermints.”

Trigger Finger

“Ain’t nun sweet but the codeine nigga / Eyes hella red like chlorine in ’em.”

Rich As Fuck

“And I got Xanax, Percocet, Promethazine with Codeine / Call me Mr Sandman, I’m selling all these hoes dreams.”

Trippy

“Weed, pills and that drank / That’s my trippy kit, That’s my trippy kit, That’s my trippy kit.”

“Shoutout to my weed man, shoutout to my lean man / Pussy ass nigga wanna spark something, I’m a gasoline can.”

“And I see lights flashing, life passing, take a bitch home and fuck like rabbits
Styrofoam cups and wine glasses, shot glasses, hot flashes
My tounges numb, I can’t talk, no balance, my spine hurts
My mind surf, my eye jerks, I try different drugs, I’m diverse.”

Bitches Love Me

“Pussy, money, weed, codeine / She said my dick feel like morphine.”

Romance

“If you got cups, then I got dranks / I take my rubber off and put that money in the bank.”

Reading all of these back, I can’t help but be reminded of Lil Wayne’s ode to addiction, “I Feel Like Dying,” from Tha Carter III Mixtape:

“Swimmin’ laps around a bottle of Louie the Thirteenth
Jumpin’ off of a mountain, into a sea of codeine
I’m at the top of the top, but still I climb
And if I should ever fall, the ground will then turn to wine

Pop-pop, pop-pop, I feel like flyin’
Then I feel like fryin’, then I feel like dyin'”

Lil Wayne referencing drank is nothing new. So what’s the big deal? I don’t wanna get too dark on you guys, but here’s why this feels so unsettling. Take care of yourself, Weezy. You may not be a human being, but you’re certainly still mortal.

Big Moe (1974 – 2007)
“All I wanna do is bang screw / In my dirty third, city of syrup.” (“City Of Syrup“)

Pimp C (1973 – 2007)
“I got the red promethazine, thick orange and yellow tuss / Hydrocodone, on the hands-free phone.” (Three 6 Mafia – “Sippin’ On Some Sizzurp” feat. Project Pat & UGK)

DJ Screw (1971 – 2000)
Call Up On Drank (Freestyle)” feat. Fat Pat & Mike D

Amy Winehouse (1983 – 2011)
“They tried to make me go to rehab but I said ‘no, no, no.'” (“Rehab“)

Kurt Cobain (1967 – 1994)
“My heart is broke, but I have some glue / Help me inhale, and mend it with you.” (“Dumb“)
