Lana Del Rey's boring new video is also a boring car commercial

Lana Del Rey struggles to keep her eyes open in the video for “Burning Desire,” her new video which masks the usual visual gibberish that plagues her derivative clips with an advertising campaign for the new Jaguar F-Type. The result comes off like a bad Saturday Night Live skit (which doesn’t narrow it down) with the dead-eyed singer swaying and smirking while roads project on the red curtain behind her.

It’s a new song, not that you’d notice. Written for the British car company, the song’s tired lyrics and deadpan delivery make it sound like Rihanna’s “Shut Up and Drive” caked in nonchalance and pastiche. As always, Lana’s worked overtime to prove that there is a fine line between effortless and desperate.
