Beck’s upcoming release is super cool and creative in that instead of recording songs, he released the sheet music for them, which is all well and good for the music listener inclined to play instead of hear, but happens to be a bit of a chore for fans who aren’t instrumentally inclined or anyone who’d rather hear the songs Luckily he says his next release will buck the short trend, telling Triple J radio that he’s working on finishing an album he started on back in 2008 and that it’ll be a standard release with actual, recorded songs on it.

“I’m trying to carve out some time from all the production work I’m doing to finish those songs before they become records from a lost era,” he says. “It’s going on a half decade at this point.”

Consequence of Sound points out that in the same interview, Beck says he recorded demo tracks of the music on Beck Hansen’s Song reader but that he doesn’t expect them to come out. Which sucks.

Beck Hansen’s Song Reader is out on December 7th via McSweeney’s.
