Cranky nerds have been clamouring for Rush in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame since they became eligible back in 1998, and it looks like it might finally happen in 2013.

Neil Peart, Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson are on the ballot for next year’s entries alongside Randy Newman, Deep Purple, Kraftwerk, Public Enemy, N.W.A. and more, but for the first time the Hall is letting fans vote. Not that it’s going to count for much.

Rolling Stone is hosting the “fan’s ballot,” which from now until December 5th will collect votes to count for one of more than 600 ballots to determine who gets in next year.

Inductees are going to be formally announced in April 2013, so there’s certainly some time to get the word out, and it’s probably now or never, Rush fans. This is their first nomination since becoming eligible 14 years ago, while classic hip-hop acts Public Enemy and N.W.A. both got the nod in this, their first year of ballot eligibility.
