Lloyd Dobbler holding the boombox over his head while it plays Peter Gabriel’s “In Your Eyes” in Say Anything is one of the most iconic cinema moments of the 80s, and the other night in LA John Cusack paid tribute to the movie when he walked on stage at the Hollywood Bowl to hand Peter Gabriel a ghetto blaster.

Unfortunately, that’s basically it. He didn’t hold it over his head. Gabriel, who’s still touring to celebrate the 25th anniversary of 1986’s So, didn’t either. In fact it almost looked like he couldn’t.

But the video of it happening is still worth watching, if only for its unique ability to make viewers feel either incredibly old or incredibly young depending on whether they get the reference. If they do, it’s a reminder that Say Anything was released 23 years ago. If they don’t, same thing. And either way, what’s left is an 11-minute video of Peter Gabriel and his band of equally old, equally bald dudes dancing around in sync.
