The fact that he’s only 17 hasn’t affected Chief Keef’s affinity for guns. After reportedly pointing a pistol at a Chicago police officer, he was put under house arrested and eventually let out with a few conditions: no guns and no drugs.

You can probably guess how that turned out. But the catch is how they caught him. In June, Pitchfork filmed him for an interview at a New York gun range, where he’s seen with a rifle.

Pitchfork’s since taken the video down, apologizing for its insensitive content in the wake of gun violence in Chigago, but their apology tiptoed around the bigger issue. Namely, that Chief Keef might have been involved in the death of Lil Jojo, the rapper whose death is cited in their retraction.

In their report, the Chicago Sun-Times says that while Keef isn’t implicated in the September 4th shooting, there are suspicions that his beef with the rapper led to his death. You might remember that Keef’s arrogance led Lupe Fiasco to threaten retirement last month.

Ultimately, it looks like the kid’s in some pretty hot water. Prosecutors said in juvenile court yesterday that they think he should be behind bars—for his own safety. We won’t know the outcome of their requests until the end of November, but it’s looking more and more like law enforcement officials in Chicago are looking to send a message this time.

“Anytime he is in Chicago, he is a potential target and anyone around him is in jeopardy, including innocent kids,” said Nicholas Roti, chief of the Chicago Police Department’s Organized Crime Bureau.

“I really believe this minor should be placed on electronic home monitoring,” added Judge Carl Anthony.

While Pitchfork has since removed the video that led to all of this, you can watch an inexplicably small embed of it below.
