Psy signs with Scooter Braun, is ready for Bieber/Jepsen level domination

Scooter Braun, the young entrepreneur who plucked a ripe Justin Bieber from the YouTube vines, has added another promising artist to his roster. Scooter Braun’s Schoolboy Records already has deals with Justin Bieber, Carly Rae Jepsen, Matt Toka, and Asher Roth, and his head count is about to get a bit more diverse, with “Gangnam Style” K-Pop juggernaut Psy signing on.

Since releasing “Gangnam Style” in July, Psy’s breakthrough song and accompanying choreography have gone viral in a big way, racking up over 105 million views on YouTube so far. The song’s music video is bizarre enough on its own, but like any viral smash, it has already inspired parodies galore.

In a video posted to Psy’s official YouTube channel, Scooter Braun and Psy share their aspirations to have Psy release the first “big record” as a Korean artist in a North American market. With a shot of Soju to wash it down, there’s a pretty good chance we’ll be seeing more of Psy in the near future. As much as it seems like a daunting challenge to prolong the artistic life of a K-Pop artist with a viral novelty hit, when you consider that Braun manages The Wanted and Cody Simpson (in addition to Carly Rae Jepsen and Justin Bieber), it looks like Psy is in pretty good hands if it’s pop stardom he’s after.

So what’s Scooter Braun’s first initiative as Psy’s manager/label boss? Well, he’ll be playing on the MTV Video Music Awards tomorrow night.
