These days, when Pitbull’s not shopping at the Walmart in Kodiak Alaska, he’s pretending to be an international man of espionage in his music videos. In Pitbull’s very Bourne-esque video for the RedOne-produced single “Get It Started,” fast cuts, car chases, surveillance cameras, and a warbling, gold dress-wearing Shakira are all heavily featured.

Pitbull’s very Bourne-esque video for the RedOne-produced single “Get It Started,” features fast cuts, car chases, surveillance cameras, and a throaty, warbling, gold dress-wearing Shakira.
Pitbull must have spies on the brain lately, because he even manages to reference Mr. Mission Impossible twice in his first verse. Curiously, instead of name-dropping Tom Cruise’s MI character Ethan Hunt, he works in a punchline about Vanilla Sky. So naturally, we were bummed that Pitbull doesn’t don a creepy mask in “Get It Started.”
On the surface, “Get It Started” has all of its ducks in a row for chart supremacy. It’s produced by Lady Gaga’s chart-topping producer RedOne. Its got Shakira yodelling the chorus. Its got a flashy music video. That said, if this song achieves any small semblence of success, in our minds, it will be the first road sign on the way to society’s eventual unravelling. If this is a world where a song by a man named Pitbull can be the most popular piece of music at any given moment, then honestly, I will welcome the warm embrace of the zombie apocalypse. Take my brain, please.
Watch the video below. Pitbull’s new album Global Warming will be released later this year.
