5 musical tributes to Amy Winehouse on the one-year anniversary of her death

One year ago today, Amy Winehouse was found dead in her Camden home of alcohol poisoning, an end for the singer that, after years of substance abuse, may not have ultimately been a surprise, but still sent shocks through the music world.

A year later, we remember Amy through the eyes and voices of the countless other artists she inspired. Here are five tributes to the singer.

Saint Etienne, “Just Friends”

Recorded for Q Magazine‘s UK print edition tribute CD that will also feature artists such as Manic Street Preachers, the Cribs, and Temper Trap covering songs from Winehouse’s breakthrough, Back To Black.

Ronnie Spector, “Back To Black”

One of Amy’s greatest influences. This version was actually recorded much prior to Amy’s death, but seems fitting to see the singer’s hero pay tribute to her.

Coldplay, “Rehab/Fix You”

Coldplay stuck just a few lines of Amy’s hit “Rehab” into the opening of their song “Fix You” at Lollapalooza 2011, just weeks after her death. The band does well with moving moments, hey?

Patti Smith, “This Is the Girl”

Not an Amy Winehouse cover but a song written for the singer. This is from Patti’s recent album Banga.

Green Day, “Amy”

Another song written for Amy. Set to appear on one of Green Day’s three upcoming albums, you can hear a classic Motown and R&B homage at play here.
