It’s unclear whether this is a radio rip or an unfinished demo, but a version of the title track from Nelly Furtado’s new album The Spirit Indestructible has leaked to the web. We’ve seen her perform the song live in Paris, and this is the first studio version we’ve been able to get our hands on. We just hope the final version is a tad less nasal.

If you can get past the low quality and the nasally vocal delivery on this version, “The Spirit Indestructible” is a pretty solid tune. It starts out with Nelly singing over a plinking harpsichord, until Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins drops a stomping beat to get things started.

“It’s an ode to the spirit which resides in all of us and triumphs over anything,” Nelly explained. “It is inspired by people I have met, and special moments in history that I have read about.”

When did the “Promiscuous Girl” get so zen? With a catchy hook and an uplifting message, “The Spirit Indestructible” could be a big comeback tune for Nelly this summer. We just hope the final version is a tad less nasal.

Listen below. The Spirit Indestructible will be released September 14th, 2012.
