Last week, I successfully and seamlessly combined the world of in-depth music journalism and an appreciation for modern art in one post. But while my listicle entitled “35 amazing Nickelback fan portraits” was, as so many astutely observed, a perfect, transcendent piece, it failed to include the other hard-working Canadian musicians and music personalities who are also immortalized by the people on the vast, great web service known as DeviantArt. As such, it remains my calling to enlighten you, dear reader, about the many wonderful Canadians who’ve been immortalized on DeviantArt’s hallowed servers. Here, enjoy 30 other amazing portraits of Canadian music icons.

David Usher

by KassyDragonFly

Moist’s moistest member David Usher is something of a Cancon sex god, so it’s only fitting that some amateur portrait artists would spread the love and immortalize him. Even if he is made to look like Quentin Tarantino on occasion.

by tlouey

Of course, other times, he looks like a Canadian alt alien who’s looking for someone to probe.

by saine

The Moist thirst continues with another portrait. This one stylizes Usher in some digital stained glass, which is probably the last kind of stain we think of when we think of Moist.

Sarah McLachlan

by spacemanpete

User spacemanpete kills it on this pencil drawing of Sarah McLachlan. At least, we think that’s her. Isn’t it?

by athosf

There’s also plenty of lyric art related to good ol’ Sarah. This one’s based on the lyrics of “Angel.” Who knew that “in the arms of an angel” was a muscly Calvin Klein model, ploughing her against a wall.

by Sierra2882

More Sarah McLachlan lyric art, set to the song “I Will Remember You.” Damn, this poor fox is so bummed out that it’s crying out all of its mascara.

Mariana’s Trench

by CatThatOinks

Theatrical rockers Mariana’s Trench, here reimagined as some terrifying circus goths.

by CometSpazzes14

And here’s the band hanging out with Green Day. Punk is alive and well.

by Jayfeather4life

Finally, treat yourself to this drawing of Mariana’s Trench as furries.

Nelly Furtado

by e-to-the-emma

Ah yes, nothing like those days in class where we’d all get bored and draw semi-realistic full colour portraits of Nelly Furtado.

by Ilojleen

A returning champion from the Nickelback portraits offers up this sensitive, sensual oil painting of Timbaland and Nelly Furtado. It looks like they’re praying for wisdom on how to follow-up the runaway success of “Promiscuous Girl” and “Man Eater.”

by ChrisHarbinger

And here we have, well, a depiction of a bound Nelly Furtado courtesy of DeviantArt fetishist Chris Harbinger. The image is titled “Caught in Clogs,” which we assume refers to her choice of shoes. Look, art is meant to be challenging okay?

Shawn Desman

by Sailor-Hope

This user created this drawing of R&B pop sensation Shawn Desman to honour him on his birthday. We can only assume that it was the best present he’s ever received.

by KAI-JA

Another piece drawn of Shawn for his birthday. What a truly wonderful gift.

by philouwilou

And here’s just a sexy pic of a shirtless Shawn looking to the right.

by betlysquirrely

Finally, some sexual ballroom dancing between two furries, inspired by the lyrics to Shawn Desman’s “So Fresh.”

Drake

by l3nka

I’d like to imagine that, if he saw this, Drake would commission a wall-sized print of this portrait and hang it up in his kitchen. It’s that good.

by MusicalCombusken

In case you can’t tell by the image, here’s the artist’s statement: “Drake, you know …. that rapper. XDD”

by kratos11″

This one’s called “My 1st Drake pic.” That’s crazy, it’s picture perfect!

by maxn3

You may not believe us, but this one was actually done on a computer.

Hedley

by clubs14

Here’s a nice shot of hyperactive Hedley frontman Jacob Hoggard, reimagined as a cluster of dots.

by totcdxbassist

And here he is again, looking handsome as ever.

by KrissySmith

This one’s called “The Angel and The Fool,” and Jacob makes for one hell of a handsome angel.

by Jacks131391

Don’t worry, the other members of Hedley get some love too. Here they are showing off their wonky heads and facial hair.

Sum 41

by paintitblack

This drawing of Sum 41 was created over a decade ago, but it’s still just as evocative as ever. That’s because art is immortal.

by Silverdraken

Is it just us, or does Deryck Whibley kind of look like Robert Pattinson?

by LucasCubasMetal

Another great shot of Deryck rocking out with cool spiky punk hair.

Jian Ghomeshi

by Elwenaur

Here’s a picture of Canadian rock dude Jian Ghomeshi, superimposed with some Moxy Fruvous lyrics.

by galaxyofgover

Here’s another picture of Jian Ghomeshi, here portrayed in his more current role as the host of CBC’s Q.

by galaxyofgover

And here’s quite possibly the best Cancon-related image on the entire internet — a depiction of Jian Ghomeshi as a pony, inspired by a Q featurette he did on the Brony movement. Just look at that cute little vest, that dashing stubble, and… what are these strange new feelings we’re feeling.
