On Friday, July 13th, Pop Hunter braved the sweaty, soiled crowds of the Full Flex Express tour stop-off at Fort York, with performances by Skrillex, Pretty Lights, Diplo, Grimes, and more. We anticipated an interesting variety of electronic music coupled with a healthy dose of bro-steppers, but what we hadn’t expected was a “haute” field of the latest, wildest fashions of the summer.

We’ve provided a sampling, or perhaps even a guide of sorts, for those heading to electronic music festivals during the last month and a half of the summer.

Here we have a smartly-dressed couple that match just enough — not trying to outdo each other nor coordinate to an embarrassing degree — just simply complementing each others’ strengths. Note the gentleman’s Skrillex t-shirt is gently care-worn. It was not bought at the very same show, which would be a serious sartorial faux pas.

This look we saw all over the field that day — the neon tan combo. Here we have a mix of bright, flashy colour-blocking, metallics and sporty accessories. This crew means business! Take note of the peekaboo grey briefs that add a sexy layer.

This particular look is somewhat of a natural extension of the previous one, but it’s a more advanced version for those who want to wear everything (or next to nothing, in this case) on their sleeve. Key elements to this look include the plaid boxers either coyly peeking out of loosely-worn jeans or worn as the “main event,” if you will. Something we haven’t yet seen outside of Europe is the sporty camisole worn over the head as demonstrated by the gentleman on the left who pulls it off so beautifully.

Something we’ll be seeing a lot more of in the coming weeks is what could be called the “bikini-dress.” It’s a clever idea that combines the feminine qualities of a dress with the non-breathable, form-fitting, coquettish look of a swimsuit, which also protects against liquid hazards one might encounter at such an event. Note the pre-Hallowe’en colour-blocking of our friend on the left.

These two are opting for a more casual (or daytime) version of the ensembles we saw above, with simple flip-flops instead of platforms, and straightforward bathing suits instead of sporty minidresses. These outfits say “please, go ahead, spray me with stuff, I’m ready,” and “we’re just two, inseparable best friends like Paris and Nicole.”

Is this fellow runway-ready or what? Such confidence! Such purpose! Plus, he is so on-trend with the designer logo t-shirts we’ve been seeing lately at Paris and NY fashion shows. We love the unifying pops of aquamarine used throughout.

Mamma Mia! Probably one of our favourite looks from the day and one of the most provocative and daring. We applaud such a bold choice from the slightly dusty high-top sneakers to the capris. Everything works together so well and completes an homage to a well-known fictional fashion plate.

Not to be overlooked was this simple, understated, yet powerful piece tastefully showcased in a red carpet-ready pose we just know will soon be seen at all the events in the coming months.

Under budget doesn’t mean out of style! These youngsters are doing a great job of re-vamping the “wet” look from the late ’90s, whether it be shown in a dust-saturated, sopping t-shirt or some lightly greased locks.

Not to be outdone, this gal has perfected the patterned wet look, which is so often attempted but rarely pulled off with such finesse. You can almost see the envy in the eyes of onlookers. Get this woman a CFDA award!

Hello, gorgeous! This is something we haven’t seen since tribal was big in Spring 2008, but good God, are we ever glad it’s back. This look is absolute perfection, from the feathered headdress/skull combo to the khaki shorts and backpack. We’re obsessed!

We caught a great, candid moment on our Fashion Cam — one that had us swooning for the rest of the day! Two adorable looks not only side by side, but working together to encapsulate the bold and varied trends we’d seen throughout the festival. Fellas, take note: if you want to impress a gal with your attire, this is exactly the way to do it. Show off those tattoos, secure a solid burn, and get those beard-roots touched up every two weeks!
