The Flyer Vault boasts an insane collection of vintage music memorabilia.
If you’re from Toronto and a fan of live music as well as memorabilia, Daniel Tate’s Instagram account The Flyer Vault may be too much for you to handle.
Drawing from his own collection as well as those of other collectors and promoters, it’s a dizzying array of artwork both intricate and rudimentary documenting decades of music in the city. The real mindfuck here, though, is the reminder that the world’s international superstars weren’t always quite as super. There was once (1993) a world where Moby was still a niche act and he, Aphex Twin, and Orbital could comfortably play at The Opera House. Justin Timberlake once joined The Black Eyed Peas during their $10 performance at The Revival. That’s some serious bang for your buck.
It’s a long-ass scroll, but it’s most definitely worth it. If you’re a hip-hop head, a large portion of the flyers are from shows (mainstream and indie) featuring line-ups that your dreams are no doubt made of. Genres non-withstanding, a lot of these fliers need to be seen to be believed.
