We still don’t know whether Sonic Youth are broken up or not, but a new collaboration between Thurston Moore, Kim Gordon and Yoko Ono doesn’t prove promising. That being said, there’s good news out of Moore’s camp today with the Matador Records blog announcing that he’s gotten together with a few other musicians to form a new band, Chelsea Light Moving.

Inspired by the last words of author William S. Burroughs, the band’s first single (downloadable here) comes with Moore’s trademark, caustic guitar work. “Burroughs” hasn’t been indicated as part of a bigger release, but it’s more than enough to wet the appetite of fans unsure of Sonic Youth’s future.

The rest of the band’s line-up fills out with Keith Wood on guitar, Samara Lubelski on bass and John Moloney on drums.
