DJ Khaled is not a rapper, we know that much. He usually hypes the front of his tracks with "DJ KHALED!" or "WE THE BEST FOREVER!" but he rarely spits a verse, or handles a chorus. Funny thing is, he's not a DJ either. DJ Khaled has absolutely nothing to do with the musical construction or production of his songs. He enlists producers to create the beats, and in this case the instrumental was supplied by Orlando production duo The Runners. So what exactly does Khaled contribute to his songs?

Nothing. Not a goddamned thing.

Before releasing records, DJ Khaled was actually a radio DJ and personality at WEDR in Miami. This gig gave him a pretty impressive rolodex, and allowed him to branch out. DJ Khaled has released 5 records without doing much more than hyping and yelling during the song. Khaled instead prides himself on initiating impressive collaborations, getting large groups of rappers and producers together to collaborate on tracks.

DJ Khaled (a.k.a. Khaled bin Abdul Khaled) has a new single out called “Take It To The Head” featuring Chris Brown, Rick Ross, Nicki Minaj, and Lil Wayne.

During the intro of the track, you can hear Khaled’s high-pitched voice yelling “DJ Khaled! Working all winter, shining all summer, I ain’t no beginner, you scared…”

This is the last you hear of Khaled on the track. The song that follows is, admittedly, a banger with a featuring list that reads like the YMCMB label roster. But make no mistake — DJ Khaled had very little to do with it.
