New host Trevor Noah hoped the interview could "bring light to domestic abuse issues."

Chris Brown was booked for an interview on Tuesday night’s episode of The Daily Show until staff members pressured new host Trevor Noah to cancel his appearance.

The Daily Beast reports that the singer’s booking became “a cause for concern around the office” despite the fact that Noah hoped to use the interview as a direct and candid conversation “to bring light to domestic abuse issues.” It should be noted that Noah has made some tasteless jokes about Brown in the past.

In the end, Brown was replaced by rapper, actor and RadioShack CCO Nick Cannon. Ironically, Cannon has also sang the praises of Brown, recently equating him to “Michael Jackson plus 2Pac.”

This is the latest repercussion for Brown since his 2009 assault of then-girlfriend Rihanna, including a border ban from this year’s tour of Australia and New Zealand. He has also come under fire for a recent lyric that may or may not insinuate date rape.

Nonetheless, The Tonight Show and Jimmy Kimmel Live have both featured performances from Brown in the past 12 months. A Comedy Central spokesperson also says The Daily Show hopes to rebook him in the future.
