It’s been hyped and hinted at for years, but after endless speculation Mikael Åkerfeldt (of Opeth fame) and Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree) have finally, formally announced Storm Corrosion, their long awaited collaboration together.

Roadrunner announced today that the duo would release their first album together on the label this coming April under the Storm Corrosion moniker.

The idea’s been brewing between both artists since they worked together on Opeth’s Blackwater Park, though it only just came together over the last year.

Described by Wilson as “enchanting, orchestral, ambient and epic,” Storm Corrosion’s debut promises to be a “dark and twisted” combination of both artists sounds…which doesn’t say much.

For his part, Åkerfeldt says its some of the “most beautiful music” he’s ever worked on, adding that their sound is “earthy, a bit frightening, exhausting, profound and rather intense. All at the same time.”

Storm Corrosion is out April 24th via Roadrunner Records.
