This past week has been filled with tributes and celebrations of J Dilla (born James Dewitt Yancey), the iconic producer who died after succumbing to illness back in 2003. It’s been a week of mixed emotions, with February 7th marking what would have been J Dilla’s 38th birthday, while yesterday was the 6th anniversary of his unfortunate passing.
Appearing yesterday on New York’s Hot97 radio station, Dilla’s long time collaborator ?uestlove (of the Roots) dedicated his hour long DJ set to his fallen friend, doing all Dilla related material for the majority of his time on the decks. A touching gesture and, honestly…one hell of a mix.
