J Dilla's uncle felt like 'Donuts' was a tribute to him, so as a tribute he'll open Dilla's Delights, a Detroit based donut shop set to start baking this fall.
Composed almost entirely in the hospital with nothing but a stack of records and a sampler, J Dilla’s Donuts remains an absolute triumph of the spirit years after its release. An iconic and beloved producer, Dilla’s been honoured time and time again in hip-hop, and his pastry loving uncle is about to take it one notch further with Pitchfork reporting that he’s opening Dilla’s Delights donut shop this fall.
Herman Hayes is a former baker who tells the Detroit News that he felt like Donuts was partly a tribute to him, which seems… odd. But he adds that it’s time to honour his late-nephew and give the respect back, hence the soon to be opened donut shop. Obviously, it’ll be based in J Dilla’s hometown of Detroit, Michigan.
