A new book that’s been more than ten years in the making has seen the light of day this month, and it’s a nice addition to a shelf for any music fan. Instrument, a photo book by Pat Graham, documents musicians and their instruments and gear; where they got them, what they mean to them, and other personal stories.

Featuring stories about gear owned by Kurt Cobain, Bon Iver, Thurston Moore, Kim Gordon, Stehpen Malkmus, and more.

Says Bon Iver of one of his guitars:

“It literally wrote a song for me, a song called ‘Skinny Love,’ which was a really important song for our band and our first record. The guitar seemed to exist to write that song, although it has been around for eighty years and who knows where it has been.”
