R.E.M. is already putting an end to the R.E.M. reunion speculation that has already started

R.E.M. broke up not even two months ago and already—immediately, acutally—people started speculating about a cash-grab reunion in the future. While most of it was likely in jest, rooted in the cash-grab classic-band reunions du jour (thanks, Pixies), but nonetheless, R.E.M. are already stomping on that speculation.

Michael Stipe and Mike Mills sat down on BBC show Newsnight recently, and when asked when they’re getting back together, Stipe immediately said “”It’s over. It’s done.”

They went on to say that the decision, not a quick or easy one, was bittersweet, and strangely liberating. You can watch the whole interview here.
