Three years of Zola Jesus in our lives and it’s still hard to believe this girl is from American’s midwest. In her new video, “Vessel,” she remains dark and mysterious and strong and magical, like she’s from another planet, or at least, like, the UK. You can watch the video above.

Taken from her upcoming album Conatus, “Vessel” was “like the final sum of the disorder I had to fight through in order to make this record. It was a great exhale but also kind of the peak of my sickness,” she tells the New York Times. “The white-banded sphinx moth [in the video] was used to symbolize the otherworldliness of dreams, secret knowledge and an underlying metamorphosis that this particular moth goes through in underground desert chambers.”

EXACTLY.
