When Odd Future finally ended the label bidding war by just making their own label and signing themselves (to be disributed by Sony/RED), they said it wouldn’t operate like a regular label when it came to signing other artists; Odd Future Records was just for them.

But today they sent out a press release saying they’ve jumped on an opportunity to sign an artist named, controversially, I’m sure, Young Ni**a. Their statement read:

“While our original intent was not to sign anyone to the label we simply could not pass up the opportunity to sign somebody this talented. Young Ni**a embodies the DIY ethic and persona of Odd Future along with a commercial appeal that transcends demographics.”

Not much is known about this artist, whose name I’m sure will be fun for broadcast media especially, but the statement said that at 3pm Pacific time, the first single would drop on Odd Future’s website. Still not entirely convinced this isn’t some kinda prank, but we’ll have to wait and see.
