News broke over the weekend that New Order would reunite for their first set of shows in over 5 years. The catch? That they’d be doing it without bassist Peter Hook.

This raised an obvious stink, since Hook has been with the band since its Joy Division days, but it’s obviously not the first time the band has gone on without an original member. So, like, get over it. Especially since the reunion is for a good cause: they’re playing two shows to raise money for friend and long-time collaborator Michael Shamburg, who’s been ill for about as long as the band’s been apart.

Vocalist Bernard Sumner tells BB6:

“Michael has been with us from the very start. Initially he was in charge of Factory New York, then became creative producer for all our early videos. He brought our attention to the early works of Directors such as Kathryn Bigelow, Gina Birch, Robert Breer, Peter Care and Phillipe Decouffle. Michael is very ill and needs constant medical attention. We want to help him, and these shows will contribute financial support towards his ongoing care.”
