Star Trek V aside, William Shatner can do no wrong, so we’ll have to pin this one on Zakk Wylde: the first song off Captain Kirk’s upcoming metal album started making the rounds today and it’s, uh…well, it’s a cover of Black Sabbath’s “Iron Man” I guess.

All things considered, it doesn’t sound too far off from the original, just with roughly two-hundred percent more pinch-harmonics, a terrible guitar solo (thanks for that, Zakk) and vocals that, while not talk-sung, are way too loud. Of course they’d have to be, since Wylde is doing his best Ozzy impression (which is markedly better than his usual Randy Rhodes impression) in the background.

Before you listen (below), here’s a little added perspective: Ozzy Osbourne is 62. William Shatner is 80.

William Shatner’s space-themed (sort-of) metal album Searching for Major Tom should be out by the end of the year.
