Broken Social Scene have never been known as a band who rapid-fire releases albums together, due in large part to the myriad other projects the collective has spawned over the years. In a new interview with Pitchfork, figurehead Kevin Drew says the band is going on hiatus again after they play a ‘final’ North American show on October 1 in San Francisco.

“While we were on the road, we kept saying we would stop, but we just kept going. But now’s the time because there are other projects that people want to pursue, and we feel that we’ve done what we wanted to do. I think we’ve really gone as far as we can with playing these tunes. It comes down to Kenny Rogers: ‘You got to know when to hold ’em and when to fold ’em.'”

Drew goes on to hint at some of the upcoming projects in the works, including new albums from Drew himself, and Brendan Canning, Andrew Whiteman, Charles Spearin, and Justin Peroff. And, as Drew says, he also has ambitions outside of music.

“if I don’t have a film out by 2013, then you have permission to come over and slap me around. Also, I’m telling people I’m looking forward to learning CPR and how to cook a beef tenderloin.”
