Metallica’s horribly named collaboration with Lou Reed is still months away, but if early reports are any indication Lulu should be a new direction, at least lyrically, for the band that once about wrote how “madly at anger” they were with us.

Reports have surfaced that the Reed-penned song “Junior Dad” brought both of Metallica’s guitarists to tears.

Kirk Hammett tells The Pulse Of Radio, “I had just lost my father literally three or four weeks previous. I had to run out of the control room, and I found myself standing in the kitchen, sobbing away. James came into the kitchen in the same condition — he was sobbing, too. It was insane…Lou managed to take out both guitar players in Metallica in one fell swoop, with his amazing poetic lyrics.”

James Hetfield’s father abandoned him when he was just 13.

Blabbermouth adds that the lyrics which apparently so-moved the Metallica axe-men were: “Say hello to junior dad/The greatest disappointment/Age withered and changed him”

Lulu comes out on Halloween. Check out Loureedmetallica.com for updates.
