James Hetfield says their 2011 Lou Reed collaboration "brought us together even more."

Lulu was a beautiful disaster. The unlikely 2011 collaboration between Metallica and Lou Reed left listeners immediately confused, if not angry. Reed says Metallica fans threatened to gun him down over the album, music reviewers torched it, and everyone else simply asked, “Wait, what do you mean you’re a table?”

But four years later, the band still stands by it.

“I’m really proud that we did it. It was fun, it was an adventure,” Hetfield told Metallica’s official fan-club magazine, So What!

“We’ve got this dedication and loyalty to this band that no matter what, nothing can kill us… So Lulu brought us together even more.”
