In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Feist says that the long wait between her massive 2007 album The Reminder and upcoming new album Metals was some intentional down time.

“I just wanted to remember what it is to be still,” she says, adding that she spent the time off reading a ton (“I read every word that Steinbeck ever wrote”) and of course working on her excellent documentary Look at What the Light Did Now.

She spent last year writing Metals on her own in Toronto. “I had the advantage of enough time passing that I didn’t feel any psychic weight of responsibility to expectations,” she says. Feist notes that all arrangements on this album were thoroughly worked out before recording, to keep as much live performance in tact as possible in Big Sur, California. Metals will be out on October 4.
