Metal nerds rejoice. After gracing us with album art so proggy and weird (full size here) that we almost expected their next album to be straight up King Crimson covers, Opeth has delivered a song that’s a song that’s as progressive as it is heavy and one that, in its early seconds, sounds eerily like a Rush song.

These are good things.

Leaving vocalist Mikael Åkerfeldt’s trademark death growl on the sidelines for a song that’s as Alice Cooper-influenced (as the band hinted at when they announced their new album) as it is reminiscent of their Damnation years, “The Devil’s Orchard” is the first new music off Opeth’s Heritage, their tenth album set for a September 16th release.
