Considered one of the best rock acts to see in a live setting, Muse released their last studio album The Resistance in 2009, winner of the Grammy Award for Best Rock Album. Now bassist Chris Wolstenhome and drummer Domonic Howard have decided to start working on a new album sans lead vocalist Matt Bellamy.

Apparently the singer is still enjoying some time off and is also preparing for the birth of his first child with fiancée, actress Kate Hudson. In the meantime, Wolfstenhome says he is writing new material from the band’s next LP.

Matt’s raised the bar quite high in terms of songwriting,” the bassist told The Sun. “I’m a bit nervous because I don’t want to write a song and it be responsible for the demise of the band.”

Previous reports have indicated the next album is expected to be released sometime in 2012 and might be on the softer side compared to their now-established brand of stadium rock.
