Quirky, soulful electro-pop isn’t exactly what comes to mind when you think of California rockers Eagles of Death Metal and their frontman Jesse Hughes, but as Boots Electric, that’s some of what we’re going to get. His alter-ego’s debut album is called Honkey Kong and it’ll be out via Dangerbird Records on September 20.
Produced by Tony Hoffer (who has worked with artists such as Beck, Depeche Mode, and The Kooks), Honkey Kong was co-written with legendary keyboardist Money Mark, best known for his work with the Beastie Boys. The first song we’re hearing from the album is “Boots Electric Theme” and it features the DIstillers’ frontwoman (and Eagles bandmate Josh Homme’s wife) Brody Dalle. It’s catchy! You can listen to it below.
