There’s a theme in the titles of the tracks on the upcoming Bon Iver record—they seem to be named primarily after places. That includes the lead single, “Calgary.” You can stream the song below or enter your email for a free download.
“Calgary” proves that Bon Iver isn’t content to repeat the same formula a second time around. Where breakthrough debut For Emma, Forever Ago was aching, this song seems to also be introspective, but bright. The sparsity is still there but in different way—there are many layers here, but they’re restrained. If “Calgary” is any indication, the self-titled sophomore release, out June 21, is going to be one to give some attention to.
Bon Iver will return to Canada with just one date so far, on August 8 at the Sound Academy in Toronto.
