In a trend that sadly never seems to die off, Vancouver band Said the Whale has had thousands of dollars worth of gear and other traveling necessities stolen while touring through California. The band discovered the theft early yesterday.

Because the band has shows for the rest of the month through the U.S., they’ve immediately moved to try to replace what they can, hoping to secure some gear and clothing donations for the time being.

In an effort to help the stranded Canadians who we’ve previously presented on tour, AUX is offering a small gesture of aid by replacing one of their acoustic guitars.

Just last week, Hamilton band Saint Alvia found themselves in a similar situation when they returned to their rehearsal space to find missing gear to the tune of $30,000.

Said the Whale maintains a positive outlook despite the theft, and in a dramatic reenactment video they posted (watch here), and sent us this note to share with their fans:

Dear everyone,

The outpouring of love and support from you all over the past 24 hours has been absolutely incredible, mind-blowing, and has fully restored our faith in humanity. THANK YOU ALL.

The generosity you have all demonstrated is extremely humbling, and though it warms our collective hearts to read your offers of socks, shirts, and even money, we feel that if this incident left you out of pocket as well as us, then the thieves have won!!  We can’t let them win!  Instead, please save your money and use it to pay your rent, your cell phone bill and your groceries – if there’s any left over after that, go to your local record store and buy an album by a sweet Canadian band.  Doesn’t matter who, just any band that’s sweet.  If you already own every record in the store, then buy your favorite one and give it to a friend who you think might like it.  Then go to a show.
Seriously love you all from the bottom of our hearts.  We’ll get back on our feet shortly.  Hope to see some of you on the road this spring!

Love,
Whales
