Internet-made rap collective OFWGKTA (Odd Future) are in the middle of watching their fame explode in real time, and AUX has learned that it’s all being officially documented for an unconfirmed television project.

In Austin, TX for SXSW, the duo MellowHype (Hodgy Beats and Left Brain) performed at a Fat Possum Records party on Wednesday afternoon (joined on stage by Tyler the Creator, Mike G, and others, when they weren’t on the floor hyping up the crowd). Filmmaker Lance Bangs—cinematographer of the Jackass series/movies and director of many live concert docs and music videos—was spotted following the feverish frenzy, telling AUX that he had been filming them for a couple of months.

In an interview with AUX’s Sam Sutherland for an upcoming AUX Presents SXSW special, MellowHype member Hodgy Beats told us that the cameras were part of an Odd Future project with Dickhouse, the production company that Johnny Knoxville runs with Jeff Tremaine and Spike Jonze of the Jackass franchise.

MellowHype recently signed with U.S. indie label Fat Possum and will re-release their album BlackenedWhite this summer, while Tyler the Creator is also working on an album for UK label XL Recordings.

EDIT 2:19 p.m.: Billboard reported on March 11 that Odd Future were working on a pilot for Adult Swim, with the only comment from the OFDWKTA camp saying it would “resemble a mixture of Jackass and Chappelle’s Show.”
