Radio personality, hip-hop promoter, and TV host DJ Megatron (real name Corey McGriff) was killed Sunday morning following a shooting near his Staten Island home. According to his manager, the 32-year-old was shot while heading to a store around 2 a.m., and so far no arrests have been made.
Having gotten his start by promoting local Staten Island artists, Megatron rose to prominence following a hosting gig on the famed New York radio station, Hot 97, and eventually worked his way into television as a personality on BET’s 106 & Park.
Recently engaged and the father of 10-month-old son, Megatron’s death has resonated deeply within the hip-hop community, with BET and Nicki Minaj having come forward to express their condolences. [via MTV]
