A Tribe Called Quest documentary gets distribution, Q-Tip thinks it's 'bullshit'

Michael Rapaport (yep—that Michael Rapaport) has been working on his Tribe Called Quest documentary for quite some time; it premiered at Sundance earlier this year and just yesterday, Variety reported that Sony Pictures Classics had picked it up for distribution. In an early trailer, Rapaport is heard to be calling the film Beats, Rhymes and Fights, but it’s now clear that it will share the name of the incredible 1996 Tribe album, Beats, Rhymes and Life.

The film, which is a chronicling of the career of the influential hip-hop act, was loved by Sundance goers, but Q-Tip has distanced himself from the project, which also focuses on the tumultous relationship between him and Tribe member Phife Dawg. In response to the news of major distribution, Q-Tip had this to say to Rap Radar‘s Elliot Wilson:
