This high-octane hip-hop video is aimed at kids raised on first-person shooters.

You! Yes, YOU! The Glorious People’s Liberation Army of China needs YOU to join up today, to safeguard the glorious doctrine of Marxist theory and socialist civilization! Actually, why am I asking, military service is compulsory. Get in the tank, comrade.

Just in case the merits of the PLA remain closed to your Western-addled mind, comrade, the PLA has spared no expense in order to bring you this CGI-riddled recruitment video, complete with a pumping hip-hop soundtrack. What’s that? The video is cheesy and over the top? Your internet privileges are revoked, comrade, and you’re to report to your nearest re-education centre.

The recruitment video above was posted on China’s Ministry of Defense website last week, and appears laser-focused at getting China’s youth interested in serving their country. How else do you explain a song with lyrics like “roar with the spirit of an animal”, “just waiting for the order to kill, kill, kill” and action sequences that wouldn’t look out of place in the newest version of Call of Duty?

According to the China Daily newspaper, the military is actively trying to recruit more educated young people, and this video appears to be a effort in that direction. Waste of money, IMO. If China really wanted to stoke up some nationalistic fervour, all they really had to do was post a video of this.
