The several seconds it took Barbara Streisand to say The Suburbs is only a fraction of the amount of time our jaws proceeded to drop when it was announced Arcade Fire had won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year. The Montreal-based band beat out Eminem, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, and a few others to claim the biggest award of the evening last night. Afterwards, they were questioned by reporters during a post-award show press conference (which you can watch below).

Some of the questions asked are laughable at best, yet the smiles never left the faces of any of the band members. It was a win for a band who deserved it, but also a win for music that doesn’t necessarily have sex appeal or a wad of cash backing it in terms of promotion (not to mention a major label). A return to alternative rock’s glory days might be a little premature to say at this point, however Arcade Fire’s David-like slain of Goliath (Eminem, Lady Gaga) gave hope to band’s everywhere dreaming big.

Watch the press conference below and for the list of all the winners from last night head over to the official Grammy Awards website.
