Last week both the White Stripes and LCD Soundsystem announced that they will no longer be performing or releasing any new material. Now this morning Mike Skinner, who performs as The Streets, has hopped on the bandwagon (although, to be fair, he was hinting at this for some time).

The Guardian has received official word from Skinner and his management that The Streets, one of the UK’s biggest acts during the mid-2000s, are no more. An update on the band’s website simply says “closed” after several weeks of non-stop postings containing videos and various songs from his latest LP Computers and Blues, which was released overseas today.

Skinner has released one final song appropriately titled “Close The Book” as a free download from The Guardian’s website. It’s an instrumental with some emotional string arrangements I guess intended to conjure up the past 10 or so years of Streets history.
