Fashion photographers Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin have directed a new video for Antony and the Johnsons’ “Everglade” from their third studio album The Crying Light, released in 2009.

The pair signed up to shoot Balmain’s fall/winter 2010/2011 campaign, starring Kate Moss, and in doing so set up surveillance-style cameras to capture her performance and turned it into a short film using the Antony and the Johnsons track as its soundtrack.

“Surrealism is always there in our work, whether it’s in camera or through computer manipulation,” van Lamsweerde said. “We’ve had the idea for this video for some time. We are fascinated with the different realities going on in one shoot and so the music, the animation, Kate’s movements and the camera angle represent these layers of perception.”

The video features animations by artist Jo Ratcliffe. “We talked to [Ratcliffe] about it being half horror and half Disney,” van Lamsweerde added. “It ranges from a sinewy heavy metal feel to a much cuter place.”

Antony and the Johnsons are reportedly working on a new EP to follow last year’s LP Swanlights.
