Parrotheads were shocked yesterday to learn that their hero Jimmy Buffett was rushed to hospital in Sydney, Austrailia after falling off the stage during a live performance.
According to Australian newspaper the Daily Telegraph, Buffett fell into the first row after singing an encore and was unconscious for five to 10 minutes. He was then taken to St. Vincent’s Hospital. Reports say Buffett’s tour manager immediately asked the audience to leave.
Speaking with ABC News, a hospital representative said the singer is currently in stable condition and is undergoing observation. Buffett was performing his final show of three at the Sydney Opera House in celebration of Australia Day.
And eye-witness told the Daily Telegraph, “We were in the 10th row and it looked like he did a massive face plant after his encore and pretty much didn’t get up… we were told to leave the premises. No one really wanted to leave because everyone was anxious to know if he survived the fall. Everyone was pretty horrified.”
A show in Auckland, New Zealand is scheduled for Saturday and dates across the US are set to take place mid-April. Buffett, 64, has previously stated he has no intention of retiring anytime soon.
