The Ramones, Patti Smith, Blondie, Television and Talking Heads are but a few bands that performed at the former New York City music venue CBGB.
Located in Manhattan, the venue was the go-to place for people to see emerging punk and new wave bands just getting their start. Years later it would become a haven for hardcore acts, before eventually closing in 2006.
It has been recently revealed that a new film bio of the legendary venue is in the works with filmmakers Randall Miller and Jody Savin at the helm. The as-yet-untitled movie will, according to Savin, “center on the real-life story of Hilly Kristal’s CBGB club and its impact on the underground music scene.”
“This is a film about an era of music, about a place that I hung out at in New York in the early ’80s and about an unsung champion of new music.”
Both Savin and Miller have also recently been at work on a new film about the late Beach Boys drummer Dennis Wilson. [Gibson]
