Just like Joey Ramone would have wanted.

Legendary New York music venue CBGB has been dead for nearly a decade, but it’s coming back in goofy airport restaurant form. Woo! Branding! GET HYPE!

Yes, there’s a CBGB eatery on its way and it’ll be plunked in Newark Airport to drain every dollar out of whatever air traveler is itching to drop $12.50 on a turkey club sandwich just like Stiv Bators would have done. Considering how much blood seems to have been squeezed from the CBGB turnip (both before and after owner Hilly Kristal’s death), can this be that much of a surprise?

Here’s a visual aide that was shared online by WFMU’s Twitter arm:

How did this come to be? The good people at Gothamist dug up a November slice of news reported by Grub Street about developments going down at Newark Liberty International Airport’s Terminal C. Tucked into the bottom was this news chunklet:

Somehow, Harold Moore hooked up with the lamented CBGB and will serve “American fare in a fun environment recalling the legendary music venue.”

Gothamist reports that they “hear it may be opening by the end of the year.”

We can’t help but wonder about their bathroom cleanliness policy. Do they make the restrooms authentically nasty, pretend nasty, or have them in sparkling condition? Please report back to us next time you’re changing flights in Newark.
