DOWNLOAD OF THE WEEK: Austra's "Beat and the Pulse"

Austra, the steadily-rising Toronto band who used to be known as Katie Stelmanis have just released the single “Beat and the Pulse” from their upcoming album. The single will be available physically on November 16, and the album to likely come next year.

It’s easy to see this song taking the band to big heights. “Beat and the Pulse” has a catchy, dark synth beat line and drum machine pairing that runs through the six-minute-long scene with twirling other lines as Stelmanis alternates her voice between hushes and pushes. It’s wicked, dastardly and courageous, like a scene unfolding late at night for a superhero coming out of the shadows.
