Arcade Fire provided a ray of light for Saturday Night Live last night with two songs off their latest record The Suburbs as well as a cameo in a digital short with Andy Samberg. Along with Owen Pallett and Nick Zinner of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, the band performed “We Used To Wait” and “Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains),” two of the more notable tracks off their third LP.

Through these performances the band once again demonstrated why they’ve been touted as such an enthralling live act. During “We Used To Wait,” lead vocalist Win Butler got up close with the camera a few times and even entered the SNL crowd, which is captured poorly by the cameras. At least they’ll be better prepared next time.

Their appearance in the Digital Short with Samberg addressing the U.N. General Assembly with a rather annoying song was just what was needed to make us not reach for the remote. Watch it all below. Oh yeah, Scarlett Johansson was the host and tried her best to get a few laughs as well.
