Arcade Fire’s Will Butler will return to his former university, Northwestern, on November 2 and will be the keynote speaker as part of Civically Engaged Young Alumni Week, a three day event sponsored by Center for Civic Engagements.

According to student website North by Northwestern, Butler, who studied poetry and creative writing while enrolled at the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences, will be talking about blending his music career with social activism.

“He’s a really unique and interesting individual because he’s taken a field like music that a lot of people don’t necessarily associate with social activism,” Asha Toulmin, a Medill School of Journalism senior, said.

Although nothing has been planned, organizers say it’s “possible” Butler may give those in attendance an impromptu performance.
