Haiti decides on Wyclef Jean's presidential hopes

Two weeks ago, the once member of Hip-Hop group The Fugees officially announced his run for president of the Republic of Haiti and addressing the nation through on the radio said, “For the 250,000 people who died in the earthquake, that’s the reason we ought to see a change in the system.” Jean was born in a suburb of the country’s capital Port-au-Prince, but left at the age of 9 and grew up in New York and New Jersey.

According to Breaking News who cites Reuters, Wyclef Jean is not on the just announced list of approved candidates for the November 28th election.

After Jean’s announcement his former Fugees bandmate Pras Michel criticized the rapper/producer saying he wasn’t qualified to be the leader of the new Haiti, which was rocked twice early this year by deadly earthquakes that claimed an estimated 300,000 lives. Michel was annoyed Jean chose to announce his candidacy via CNN and said, “CNN is for the elite in Haiti, 80 percent of the people don’t do TV it’s more radio.”
